The All New BMW X1 to arrive in the US in 2011
  For the first time the features and qualities so typical of a BMW X model are also available in a premium vehicle in the compact segment. Indeed, the BMW X1 is entering the market with the assignment to offer the Sheer Driving Pleasure so characteristic of BMW with a new standard of quality also in this segment of the market. The latest member in the family of BMW X models therefore stands for versatile, sporting performance and supreme agility in an urban environment and beyond. In its style and appearance, the BMW X1 is the epitome of self-confident elegance, sophisticated function, and stylish, modern character.

Two versions of the X1 are initially planned for U.S. sale: a rear-wheel-drive X1 xDrive28i running a 245-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine and an all-wheel-drive X1 xDrive35i with a 306-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder powerplant. Both come standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with the xDrive28i receiving a standard stop/start system. Other BMW EfficientDynamics functions used by the X1 models for North America include brake-energy recuperation, electric power steering and an on-demand system that only sees the engine ancillaries-such as the water pump and the oil pump-operate when required, placing less strain on the engine and leading to lower fuel consumption.
